Faramontaos 1952 draws inspiration from the Instagram images of artificial Galicia. In them, we see photographs generated with artificial intelligence that transport us to an imaginary Galicia, blending scenes from the mid-20th century with science fiction worlds.
Faramontaos 1952 tells the story of some form of extraterrestrial life that arrives in a flying object to this village, resulting in a cultural clash. During their stay, they hear the sounds of bagpipes, the whistle of the knife sharpener, or the sounds of processions and carnival.
In reality, it is the story of Alan Lomax, a musicologist who visited Faramontaos in 1952 to collect popular melodies. The cultural shock upon his arrival must have been no less than if the expedition were extraterrestrial.
Extraterrestrial life is represented by electronics, which blends synthesizers and Morse code to create a language reminiscent of 1980s science fiction cinema.
Galicia reimagined in a work of sound science fiction: Alan Lomax, Miles Davis, and a nod to artificial intelligence.
